Internet Marketing Dictionary   >   Maslow's Pyramid

Abraham Maslow developed a model of the categories of fundamental human needs which are the basis for all action. Maslow organized these categories into a pyramid structure, and says that before a superior need (at the top of the pyramid) appears, an inferior need (at the bottom of the pyramid) must be satisfied:

The Need for Self Actualization

Esteem Needs

Social Needs

Safety Needs

Physiological Needs

The Maslow scale can be used as a model for developing benefits in your sales letter or advertising that can encourage action. In general, the higher up the pyramid that you go, the less people will have reached the appropriate level, so mass market products tend to focus on the lower levels of the pyramid.
